“Without doing any harm to the eye, we insert the jewel in the conjunctiva,” Melles said. “So far not seen any side effects or complications. Nor hope to have them in the future.”

The institute based in Rotterdam, which develops new ocular surgical techniques, created and patented the jewelry made with special materials and surgical procedures.

The institute said there is already a waiting list of people who want to make the implant.
